Log 6: What Really Matters

Image
The Series recently released their 87th volume. I’ll admit, One Piece isn’t a perfect series. While I believe it is good, it is still very long, as I said earlier, it has just released its 888th chapter, but even so I feel at this point, its long story only strengthens the series from a narrative standpoint. Once you go deep and far into the story, it is amazing when you look back, to see Luffy setting out from his village in a little row boat, to now he is one of the most infamous pirates in the world, it makes you reflect on just how much has happened, and once the series finally wraps, you’ll be amazed by just how big and detailed of an adventure the series was.                  There is also an underwhelming sense of depth and worry throughout the series as well, no matter how bad it looks, you just know Luffy and the Straw Hats will make it out of it somehow, whi...

Log 5: A Beautifully Built World

The first page of the series, still leaves us unanswered questions. Despite its cartoony look, One Piece has a sense of mystery and wonder surrounding its world, even starting from the first page of the first chapter, we become intrigued by what exciting Gold Roger left behind, with new mysteries and questions being given as the series moves forward, that are still unanswered to this day.  Each arc differs from the last, as it starts out with Luffy having major one on one battles with rival pirates starting out. After that it goes from taking down a large criminal syndicate, to wondrous adventure in the sky, battling a secret Gov’t agency, fighting zombies on a nightmare island., then a prison break and eventually all out war. Each new arc gives off a new type of feeling and atmosphere, that keeps the series exciting and new, as you learn not to know what to expect in the future.  ...

Log 4: The Straw Hat Pirate

Image
While each member of the Straw Hat crew is a joy to see, Luffy seems to outshine them all. Luffy is the face and wonder of the series, he has become one of the most popular and recognizable anime characters in history. if he was a failure as character to carry the series forward, the entirety of One Piece would have failed from the start. On the contrary Luffy is a joyous character, while occasionally very dim witted and sometimes irritating to his crew, he is still courageous and gleefully optimistic, with nothing really seeming to bother him.  Unlike most characters in the series, who's reasons or goals seem to come from personal or financial gain, Luffy’s aim as a pirate comes from his desire to seek adventure, to be the most free man on the sea, to travel to the unknown and see what’s there. this kind of humbleness and determination, is the main reason people choose to follow him. Throughout the series, you’l...

Log 1: An Adventurer's Start

It’s amazing to me still today that I got attached to this series from this..... (4kids Dubbed Footage); ........Yeah. I know. One Piece Vol. 1 Cover But I was intrigued, I mean anything looked cool to me when I'm 10, but it was when I found the manga at Barnes & Noble where I really got attached. I was too young to notice the cheesy dialogue of the dubbed over animation, but the comic really popped out to me, probably because I'm an artist myself, but I saw how much more edgy, it was with intense and violent action, beautifully illustrated to display the major moments. And you grow to complement the fact that these are all individually drawn and placed together that creatively shows the beautiful nature of this world.                                                                   ...
